What we learned in January explains why Yoda was awesome and Palpatine was not


Greetings, All! It’s time for a new feature – the monthly wrap! We covered a variety of topics this month in 9 posts, and I wanted to take a moment to review what we learned and organize the topics into a common theme. It may seem they the topics were disparate, but they really were not, so let’s review, absorb, and continue to build upon what we learned thus far.

Six posts discussed healthy dietary choices:

The net of these posts is that we are all empowered to make better dietary choices, such as growing our own organic food, choosing non-GMO foods, choosing the least contaminated and most sustainable fish and animal proteins, monitoring the situation in Fukushima and the impact on Pacific seafood, removing gluten from our diets (especially if we suffer from neurological issues) and detoxing on a regular basis. If these recommendations are followed, the resulting diet would be very clean and consist of organic and non-GMO meats, fruits and vegetables; sustainable, nutritious fish; healthy fats; and low, or no, gluten (depending on tolerance) and much better health will likely result. No magic needed, just better choices each and every day.

We departed from the nutrition theme for one post, which discussed being the masters of our mind and perception:


I thought this topic was important because we can eat only the cleanest of foods, but if we exist in a state of emotional negativity (i.e. following the Dark Side of The Force), the positive impact from the foods will not be fully realized because it takes an elevated body, mind and spirit to sustain true health. I realize that controlling our perceptions is not easy, but for me the key was realizing that I am not my brain, I am an eternal spirit inhabiting a body with a brain. This wondrous brain may produce wild, crazy, negative, and critical thoughts, but those thoughts are not the perception of my reality I need to accept. I am learning to mold that perception by doing things regularly like meditating and living in the present moment.  It is empowering because the more I do those things, the more the clouds part and the sun shines in. The net here is that other people, possessions, or perfect circumstances can never make you truly happy – only you can by removing the toxic, ego-driven perceptions of what is happening around you.  A monk in a prison cell can feel joy, and likewise a Beverly Hills Housewife in a mansion can feel miserable (and act like a ridiculous fool!). Each chose the perception of their circumstances and acted accordingly. I’d rather be the monk!

We then dove deeper into the subject of epigenetics. I was truly fascinated to learn that what we input to our being – body and mind – can influence our genetic expression! HOLY MOLY the DNA we inherited at birth is not set in stone for ourselves, our offspring, or their offspring!! I covered the paradigm-shifting field of epigenetics in the two posts below:



Again the message of empowerment comes through – our daily lifestyle choices profoundly impact not only our health, but that of our offspring and their offspring. Make good choices, and future generations will benefit greatly. Make bad choices, and they will be born with the deck stacked against them. Not fair, and kind of selfish, eh? Therefore, get it together, not only for yourself, but your kids and their kids!

And this brings me to why Yoda was awesome for almost 800 years [1]. Yoda was a master of his mind, who fully realized the power of perception; he walked on the Light Side of The Force, fighting the Dark Side and selflessly training young Padawans; and surely ate an organic, vegetable-rich diet during his years of exile on the swamp-planet Dagobah. Compare this to Emperor Palpatine, who walked on the Dark Side, wreaked evil havoc on billions, and generally lived a toxic existence. As a result of this lifestyle, the most powerful Sith Lord of all times, who was born a human male, wound up with a mug like this:

Weekend Wrap…McNuggets with a side of heavy metals – YUMMY!

Welcome! Let’s dig in. So on the brilliant move by a government agency front, the USDA is planning to allow Chinese poultry processing plants to export chicken to the U.S. I mean no disrespect to my wonderful Chinese friends, but let’s face it, some abhorrent practices still occur there. This is the land of sewer sludge being converted to cooking oil (1), toxic air and water leading to toxic food (2), and melamine-tainted foods being produced and consumed by unsuspecting people and animals, thereby sickening or killing them (3).  It just seems to be a culture rife with corruption and disrespect for animal and human life. Having said that, what could possibly go wrong with poultry produced there? (S.A.R.C.A.S.M.) Here’s what:


The net is that China is the most polluted industrial nation in the world, and it routinely and consistently produces the most heavily contaminated food products anywhere on the planet. Natural News Forensic Food Lab tests have confirmed that food products produced in China are consistently the most polluted in the world (4).

Now let’s take a moment to review all that is disgusting and gross about conventional chicken:

–          May be procured from China (even if it is labeled organic, it may be contaminated with heavy metals, which are not part of the organic certification criteria)

–          May be contaminated with arsenic. The FDA  just recently pulled approval of the arsenic-based drug Roxarsone from agricultural use, eliminating one of the most prominent sources of toxic arsenic in commercial poultry (5)

–          May be contaminated with feces, pus, and chlorine due to poorly regulated production practices (6)

Lost your appetite yet? I know I am about to gag.

The reasons for the above are many-fold, but here are 2 big ones:

–          American beef producers want access to the Chinese market, so for this to happen we have to open up our poultry market to them.

–          The USDA is transferring oversight from the government to the production plants, in shocking, industry-friendly de-regulation called “Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points” (HACCP). We get to “trust” that the poultry plants will do the best thing for the animals and consumers, and not just implement disgusting practices which will make them the most $$! Hey, USDA, good to know you have our backs! (More sarcasm…)

Since clearly the USDA does not have our backs, we have to arm ourselves with knowledge and take action to protect ourselves. In this case, avoid conventional chicken ALL the time. If it is not organic from the US, then don’t eat it. All organic, all the time. Period.

Speaking of organic, you may be skeptical about its advantages and higher cost. Here is an insightful posting by Robyn O’Brien, author of The Unhealthy Truth, which we have mentioned several times here:


She explains how the high price of organic food can irritate anyone.  But the scrutiny that these foods undergo is enormous and expensive, driving prices at the cash register and for those producing them on the farm.  Why the costs?  Because the cost structure on our food supply offers taxpayer-funded resources called subsidies to the farmers using genetically engineered seeds and saturating crops in insecticides and weed killers, while charging the organic farmers fees to prove that their crops are safe.

Let that sink in for a moment – our government subsidizes the toxic, GMO crap that is making us ill and puts the screws to small, organic farmers. In other words, it’s an un-level playing field right now (the subject for a whole other rant post!). I know I am starting to grow vegetables for the first time and have no idea what I am doing, but will figure it out. Gotta start somewhere!
